Sailor Bill view sample tattoos here My name is Sailor Bill Johnson and I was raised in Coconut Grove Florida. My grandfather had a commercial fishing fleet and my father was a yachting captain and dockmaster. I also lived in West End, Grand Bahama. I started sailing the waters off of Miami by myself at the age of seven, hence the name “Sailor Bill”. I enlisted in the Navy in 1968 and spent five years in various assignments in the States and overseas in Helicopter Squadrons. My last station was in Lakehurst New Jersey with Helicopter Combat Squadron 2. I became interested in tattoos in high school and got my first one in downtown Miami my senior year of high school. My next tattoo was at the same shop when I was home on leave after boot camp. Little did I know that the shop I use to frequent in Jacksonville in 1969 and run by a neat guy named Paul would close that same year. I would connect up with him ten years latter and spend many hours at his home learning to build and work on tattoo machines. That man was the late great Paul Rodgers. I apprenticed under my late brother Tattoo Bob and Bear in Memphis in 1978 and started tattooing in January of 1979. I tattooed in Memphis and the Orlando area at various locations as I was taking time to travel and tour Europe and the States with the Australian band, Rose Tattoo. May of 1982 I formally opened Tattoo Time across the street from my current location. In June of 1983 I moved into our current building and have been here ever since. I attribute my longevity in the same location and quality work that we do for my success in business. We also have a friendly attitude with our customers and have many long-term customers. Having tattooed this many years I have had to master many styles of tattooing. My all time favorite styles still are traditional, black and gray work and oriental. You can usually find me at the shop Wednesday through Sunday from 2 or 3 p.m. to closing. I am kept fairly busy in the daily running of the business and spending time on projects and research for the Florida Professional Tattoo Artists Guild. The Guild was formed in 1992 and works hand in hand with Florida legislators and the Health Department. I held the office of President for two terms from 1995 through 2001; I am currently the Treasurer. I am also a member of the Alliance of Professional Tattooists and have been a member of National Tattoo Association since 1979. I have traveled many places over the years and have many friends and fellow tattoo artists throughout the world that have helped me learn my profession and enabled me to excel. This in turn has made “Sailor Bill” and “Tattoo Time” synonymous with high quality tattooing at a fair price with very high health standards in a pleasant surrounding. I would like to invite you to stop in and check us out. If you are looking for high quality top of the line tattooing, then I feel you will be more than pleased with Tattoo Time.
